Mustachio! I’ve seen the mustache craze circling the wedding blogsphere and I just think they are adorable. So Geoff and I both enthusiastically gave project mustache-on-a-stick the thumbs up. We got together with our very helpful friends to make about 80 of them. I’m happy to share a how-to on how we made our mustachios. (with templates!) Oh, and did I mention very how very inexpensive they are to make?!

Supplies
Craft felt (two sheets make about 3-5 ’staches)
Hot glue gun/glue sticks
Craft dowels (we used the 1/4″ size)
Scissors
Mustachio Template (Click here to download)

1. Cut your ’stache
You need two layers of each mustache for each stick. You can use the templates I created (can you spot the Mario ’stache?) or just freehand it.

2. Get gluing
Line up your layers and start gluing with hot glue between the two layers about halfway through the mustache. In order to get the felt really stiff, I made sure to use a lot of glue so that it covered the entire shape, not just the edges.

3. Stick it
Insert the stick on the side of the mustache, making sure to glue both sides of the stick to the felt. Finish up applying glue to the rest of the mustache and you are good to go! You can even tie on a ribbon to coordinate with your wedding colors.

4. Take funny photos!
The mustache-on-a-stick makes for hilariously dignified photographs. The shots below are from the test run of the Photobooth we are putting together for the wedding. (Sorry they are slightly indecent). Have fun!

Geoff and Lisa wedding countdown: 5 DAYS! Can you tell I’m a WEEE bit excited?

Our Wedding: SHOES!

August 12, 2009

With the big day approaching in about a week and a half, Geoff and I are working on finishing up all the little details. I love little details! They are one of the very most fun parts of planning a wedding. Today I am excited because we both have wedding shoes! Mine are peep-toe and orange and awesome. Even better yet, I found them at Nordtrom Rack for only 26 dollars. I love getting great deals, even though Geoff said this would be the one time when I’d be allowed to spend $200 on shoes. Maybe I’ll stop by a few boutiques downtown… (at $26, I can afford to change my mind, hehe).

Geoff got some pretty rockin’ shoes too. Yes, I’ve got a man that actually cares about what goes on his feet. He can be pretty picky about his shoes, hehe.

I’ve got more details to blog about in the upcoming week and a half. Stay tuned, I’ve even got some cool How-To projects!

Now that, for the most part, our guests have received them, its finally safe to blog about our wedding invitations. This invitation suite was designed by me (why yes, I DO also do wedding invitation design! Check out the design gallery on the portfolio site and click here for more info). Our wedding will have kind of a carnival/circus/county fair/summer barbeque theme and I want to reflect that in the invitations. Also Geoff and I are pretty untraditional so loopy script typefaces were thrown out the window. I’m really happy with the outcome of the design.

With the business Geoff and I run together, elephants hold a soft spot in our hearts now. Plus they go along great with our theme!

Next up, our elephant cake toppers! I LOVE these! They are handmade by the amazing Hilary, the artist/craftslady behind Bunny with a Toolbelt. Check out her Etsy shop here, she makes the most adorable wooden sculptures. Well, when I saw these I knew they would be perfect!

Two weeks to go, people. Geoff and I are so excited! We have lots of little projects to finish up and so many more little details to share! Excitement!

Before Geoff and I got engaged I found (and shortly became obsessed with) this amazing convertible dress, aka infinity dress, aka easy-peasy wonder dress! I found the tutorial to make it from Rostitchery. It’s basically a skirt with two long wide straps that you can wrap around you and wear in dozens of ways. I made myself a couple and loved them!

So when I started to think of potential bridesmaids dresses, these instantly came to mind. Cute, casual, COMFORTABLE, and very versatile. All my girls get to wear the dresses whatever way they like best. So I took on the task of making them for my 4 bridesmaids. They took about 1-2 hours each and were pretty inexpensive too. (Costing under $60 each!). Here they are hanging up.

There are designers that make a similar dress, like Butter by Nadia and Two Birds Bridesmaids. My version sported a few tweaks like built-in tube top and one was even a maternity version for my MOH. I wrapped them all up and packaged them with a note filled with websites that feature the dress with pics and videos about how to tie them.

I gave them beaded necklaces to wear on the big day. (Oh, how I adore chunky beaded necklaces!)

I gave them to the girls on Friday and we had a “Wrap Party”. We played with the dresses and all the different ways to wear them. It was a bunch of fun and I think all the girls liked the dresses. I had a great time making them for all my favorite girls! I can’t wait to show off what they all looked like in them! Just over a month until the BIG DAY!

Happy Birthday to Geoff!

June 20, 2009

Today is the birthday of my wonderful and amazing partner-in-crime/photography, best friend, love of my life, and hubby-to-be, Geoff! I know the business is called “Lisa Welge” but it’s really equal parts him and I and it wouldn’t exist without him. I would never be who I am today or be at this point in my life if it wasn’t for him. His love and support of the years have made my life better than I ever could have imagined and I cannot WAIT to marry him in August! Thank you Geoff encouraging me, teaching me, helping me remember things, and making this business happen. I love you SO MUCH and am so happy you were born!

(P.S. What an awesome guy, he’s even giving up his birthday today so we can shoot Tony and Stephanie’s wedding. You ROCK Geoff, I love you infinity!)

One stormy night…

June 4, 2009

Geoff post today! Geoff is sharing his experience photographing last night’s thunderstorm:
Last night an amazing thunder and lightning storm rolled through most of California. Here in Sacramento we were getting hit extremely hard. The news was saying in the upwards of 1500 strikes in an hour at the peak of the storm. I took this opportunity to seek out a great view for all of this action. Lisa was off to sleep to prepare for her busy day today while I was perched 10 stories up in our Downtown Sacramento. It was such an amazing sight. We just wanted to share a couple of amazing pictures. Hope everyone here in Sacramento were able to get sleep last night, that thunder started to get wake-you-up-and-scare-the-crap-out-of-you loud.
